Welcome to CARI’s website!
The Center for African Refugees and Immigrants (CARI) is a national division of the Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc. (ECDC). The idea for CARI grew out of ECDC’s extensive experience working with African newcomers, African community-based organizations (CBOs), and mainstream institutions. Over the course of two decades operating in the fields of refugee resettlement and service provision, the need for a national resource center focusing on issues of concern to African immigrants and refugees has become apparent to ECDC. Thus, CARI was established as a source of public education, capacity-building, community development and dialogue for and among African refugees and immigrants and their allies in the United States.
We present this website as a means of exchange and learning for our various stakeholders. Among the many features of CARI’s website are the African Voices discussion board where community members can share ideas and information; a resource section where visitors can find publications and education materials related to health and social issues affecting African immigrants and refugees; and a members-only page that includes capacity building tools, training opportunities, funding announcements, and an ARN discussion board for members of the African Resource Network.
CARI, and this website, is the culmination of many years of dialogue, planning, and hard work among staff at ECDC and our partner African community-based organizations. Welcome and enjoy the site!
